Oernatuur Of Nieuwe Wildernis?

Weasel Apparently Shuts Down World’s Most Powerful Particle Collider

The Large Hadron Collider, a 17-mile superconducting machine designed to smash protons together at close to the speed of light, went offline overnight. Engineers investigating the mishap found the charred remains of a furry creature near a gnawed-through power cable.

Big Problems For Marine Ecosystems

“What is very clear is that if the trend of human warming continues — which it seems likely to do given the relative inactivity on curtaining CO2 emissions — oxygen levels in the ocean at depth will continue to decline and there will be significant impacts on marine ecosystems,” Long said. “As oxygen levels decline, […]

3 Pesticides Are Putting Nearly All U.S. Endangered Species At Risk

Endangered species can come in contact with these pesticides in a number of ways, Burd said. Fish and amphibians can be exposed if runoff washes pesticide residue into streams and ponds. Young gorillas seen dismantling poachers’ traps for the first time

Days after a poacher’s trap killed a young mountain gorilla in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, researchers have spotted something remarkable: two four-year old gorillas working together to dismantle similar snares in the area. “This is absolutely the first time that we’ve seen juveniles doing that… I don’t know of any other reports in the world […]

This massive seagrass die-off is the latest sign we’re failing to protect the Everglades

It’s not just Florida Bay: Seagrasses the world over are threatened. In a 2009 study, scientists found that segrass extent had declined globally by 29 percent since the late 19thcentury. They concluded that seagrasses were just as threatened as their companion coastal ecosystem, coral reefs, though the latter tend to get far more attention.

Afname in zuurstof waargenomen in oceanen

Is Yellowstone National Park In Danger Of Being ‘Loved To Death’?

Private lands development around the periphery of the parks, Grand Teton and Yellowstone, is the crucial issue, because if those private lands are transformed from open pastures, meadow, forest land, to suburbs, to little ranchettes, to shopping malls, to roads, to Starbucks, if those places are all settled for the benefit of humans, then the […]
